Get my free reading →Two reasons. Most charts online use the lunar new year, or worse, January 1st. Saju uses the solar terms: the year turns at 입춘 (start of spring), on or around February 4th. If you were born in January or early February, your animal is the previous year's.
Each of the four pillars — year, month, day, hour — has its own branch, and every branch is an animal. The day branch is read as you in a partnership; the hour branch is read as the later part of life and what you leave behind.
